About Us

In January of 1979, under the leadership of Bishop Carl J. Sanders, the Alabama-West Florida United Methodist Foundation was established as an agency of the Annual Conference. To underwrite the initial operating expenses of the Foundation, 36 lay directors were recruited, each of whom supported the Foundation with a financial pledge. Although today’s Foundation directors are not required to make a financial pledge, many do, as well as sharing their talents and experience.

Over these last twenty-plus years there have been many changes in our services, administration and operating budget. In 1992, after a number of years of Conference support, we became one of the few self-supporting U. M. Foundations in the country. Growth in the use of our services has been in response to the financial needs of the Church and the good stewardship of church members. Partnerships have been formed with church members, local churches, church organizations and institutions to encourage and facilitate lasting gifts. By providing a variety of services, we can work directly with church members who desire to strengthen the ministry of the Church through gifts of their accumulated assets.

Our opportunities to serve and witness continue to evolve. With funds entrusted to the Foundation continuing to grow, the possibilities for ministry will be enhanced through these investments. We thank God for the many leaders throughout the Conference who have responded and invested in ministry today and in the future.
